Finding the extraordinary in an ordinary street
Everyday routines can reveal a neighbourhood’s character, if we take the time to look.
By Tshilamoya Times ·
A street is an accumulation of familiar details: the opening of a shop, the regular journey to work and the people whose presence marks a particular hour.
Looking closely at those routines is one way to understand a neighbourhood. It can also help a newsroom find questions that are important to residents but easy to miss from a distance.
This demonstration feature contains no claims about a named street, business or individual. A reported version would begin with a visit and the people who live and work there.
