A reading room is more than a room full of books
Why shared spaces for reading, learning and conversation still matter in a distracted world.
By Tshilamoya Times ·
A good reading space offers something that is increasingly difficult to find: permission to spend time with an idea. Its value lies as much in the quiet as in the shelves.
Libraries can connect readers across generations. A student working through a difficult chapter and an older reader returning to a favourite author may find different things in the same room, but both benefit from its openness.
The future of reading is not only a question of paper or screens. It also depends on the places where people can discover something unfamiliar, share a recommendation and feel welcome to stay.
